What to Expect
At Fertility Specialists of Houston, our team of doctors and clinicians strive to make your experience the best possible during this difficult time. We spend a great deal of the first visit with our patients to educating them on our services and crafting treatment options that would be best for them. When our patients understand their own bodies and the numerous treatment options, they are much more capable to gain control of their problem and be proactive in their treatment.
Our first goal at Fertility Specialists of Houston during a first time visit is to place the new patient at ease. We explain:
- Our approach to patient care
- Our availability to answer all questions
- And how our treatment plans are individualized
Our program does not merely focus on the medical aspect of fertility because we realize the significant physical, emotional and financial investment a patient makes during this process.
We offer support groups and individualized counseling options for couples and individuals who would like them. Additionally, each physician has a patient financial specialist who can advise you on the financial impact of any treatment option.
By the time patients have a consultation with one of our physicians, she or he has probably already gone through a significant amount of worry about getting pregnant.
First: We begin our treatment process by discussing how their fertility problem is impacting their lives and we review stress reduction and ways to cope with the situation they are in. Occasionally, the majority of a new patients visit is spent on discussing the psychological effect of infertility.
Second: Following a medical interview, the doctor does a comprehensive physical examination and a female pelvic ultrasound, explaining to the patient her reproductive anatomy and any findings which may be contributing to a fertility problem.
Third: The patient then reviews her evaluation and testing with one of our specialized clinicians. Patient education materials are provided, along with our web site, to supplement information shared during the office visit.
Finally: patients spend time with our financial counselor to determine fertility benefits coverage and a follow-up appointment is scheduled to begin treatment.
