Fertility Specialists of Houston recognizes that many couples may be successful with a pregnancy only by utilizing oocyte donation, (egg donation). Similar to most reproductive practices in the U.S. oocyte donation can be via a donor oocyte program or utilizing outside reputable donor oocyte agencies.
The Fertility Specialists of Houston's Oocyte Donation Program (egg donation) is a team effort with everyone working together to achieve a common goal. Dr. Randall Dunn, Dr. Cecilia Valdes, Dr. Leah Schenk and Dr. Subodh Chauhan are all Reproductive Endocrinologists. All of the FSH Physicians are formally trained sub specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology that are capable of managing complex clinical problems related to infertility.
To achieve this competency, an Obstetrician and Gynecologist must complete a separate board approved subspecialty fellowship. Fertility Specialists of Houston's does have an in-house Oocyte Donation Program which runs as a team approach under the direction of Dr Dunn, Dr. Schenk, Dr. Valdez and Dr. Chauhan. The team includes nurses and medical assistants, IVF coordinator, and ultrasonographer.
Women may choose egg donation for a variety of reasons. Some women have tried to become pregnant for years without success, mainly because they do not produce good quality eggs of their own. This often includes women over the age of 40 who have failed other fertility treatment attempts.
Previous chemotherapy, ovarian surgery, premature menopause and absence of ovaries from birth are some of the reasons why ovaries are absent or function poorly. Additionally, some women carry a genetic disorder that they do not want to transmit to a child.
Women may choose to use an anonymous or known oocyle donor.
